Imon’s 2023 report in Desh Bortoman titled “False Cases Rising in Chattogram Courts” revealed a syndicate of lawyers involved in fraudulent lawsuits. Now, in a striking twist, that very report seems to have triggered a “secret case” against him.
Filed in June 2024, the case remained dormant for over a year—until suddenly revived in September 2025, just as Imon began probing a powerful land syndicate. Even one of the plaintiffs admitted, “I don’t really know much; my name was just used.
”Senior journalists and lawyers see the move as an attempt to intimidate the press. “If a case is false, the court will reveal it. But journalists must not face harassment,” said Advocate Abdus Sattar, President of the Chattogram Bar Association.I
